When we planned to climb we had the idea to celebrate our efforts with a well deserved mini holiday at the beautiful island Zanzibar. We wanted to get there by bus. We encountered limited information about bus tickets and such. So hereby all the information you need. First thing you need is to go from Moshi (or Arusha) to Dar Es Salaam. The most scenic way to do this is by bus. There are several bus companies, but we used -company-. That was the only one that left at 6:00am. You can get tickets here (insert link). It will take you around 10 hours to reach Dar Es Salaam, but it is totally worth it.
We thought the trip to Dar would take 8 hours and we plannend to take the ferry to Zanzibar at 15:45pm. We tell you now, this is impossible. So you can stay a night in Dar or what we did, we took a charter flight to Stone Town. This cost us more or less the same as staying an extra night and you don't miss a day on this beautiful island. You can buy the tickets at the airport for $ 80,-.
As soon as you arrive the taxi drivers will be all over you. Luckily for us we met a nice man that was willing to take us to Kendwa for a much lower price. Mind you, from Stone Town to Kendwa is 1,5 hour drive and regular taxi drivers will ask around $50 - 70,-. We drove with Issam and payed $ 30,-. He is also good company and can tell you everything about the island. He is a private taxi driver and born and raised on the island. So to finish your trip from Moshi to Zanzibar he is a excellent choice for the last part of this endeavor.
